TJ GUMIELA AND IAN GENTIL ANNOUNCED AS WILDCARDS FOR 2010

NIKE 6.0 UNSOUND JR PRO

NEW YORK, New York, Aug 25th, 2010— Wildcard names have been announced for the upcoming Unsound Jr Pro event, which has established itself as the highest rated ASP Jr Pro in North America. Hometown surfer TJ Gumiela has been slotted to receive a wild card entry, along with Nike 6.0 sponsored surfer, Ian Gentil.

20-year-old TJ Gumiela hails from Long Beach, NY and has been a sponsored surfer for the Unsound Surf Shop since he was a young grom. “We are stoked to have TJ Gumiela as Unsound’s wild card. He is a great surfer and will represent NY well when he takes on the best JR ‘s in the country in his home town,” said Unsound Surf owner Michael Nelson.

Maui’s own Gentil has won two national titles including the 2009 NSSA Nationals. The 14-year-old supergrom’s sponsors include Nike 6.0, Lost Surfboards, O’Neill Wetsuits and Da Kine. “We are thrilled to have Ian as the 2010 Unsound Jr Pro wildcard for Nike 6.0. His ability to perform well in any condition will make him a great addition to the excellent field of competitors,” said Nike 6.0 surf team mentor Frankie D’Andrea.

This year the Unsound Pro will offer the world class Jr Pro event in addition to both Men’s and Women’s Pro divisions and will be talking place on September 8-12th in Long Beach, New York. A live webcast presented by Nike 6.0 will be available to the public during competition days at www.nike6unsoundjrpro.com.

Additionally, top ranked female surfer Carissa Moore and Maya Gabeira will stop in at the Unsound Pro to shoot scenes for the New York based action sports series “The Transit Chapters” which will air on MSG Plus in the fall of 2010.

Other highlights at the 2010 Unsound Pro include:

  • Nike 6.0 Unsound Jr Pro will be a 4-star rated event, the highest ranked Jr Pro in North America this year including:
  • 48 surfers
  • Man on Man heats
  • Wide range of Divisions – Skull Candy Men’s Pro, Jr Pro and Women’s Pro
  • Memorial 9/11 Paddle in conjunction with Spirit Rider Regatta and The O‘Keefe Foundation Walk and an after-party at      The Inn of Long Beach

Sponsors of the 2010 Unsound Pro include Unsound Surf Shop, Red Bull, Skull Candy and The Inn of Long Beach who will be hosting the after party.
