REEF Inks Head-to-Toe Deal with Luke Davis and Kai Otton

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Carlsbad, CA) January 25th, 2012 –Reef is extending the depth and strength of its surf team with the 100% sponsorship of up-and-comer Luke Davis and ASP World Tour competitor Kai Otton. Luke and Kai will join the likes of Cyrus Sutton, Nick Rozsa and Mikala Jones as they round out the Reef apparel team and help spread the brand’s Modern Gypsy tale around the world.

The Modern Gypsy is a Reef term used to describe the brand’s diverse roster of world-class surfers who never call one place home. Their home is on the road, in an airplane or on a boat, traveling to exotic locations in search of new cultural experiences and perfect surf. The newest Modern Gypsies to join the ranks, Luke Davis and Kai Otton, fulfill two key roles to a dynamic apparel team.

Luke Davis, one of the driving forces of the new school of U.S. surfing elite, is readying himself for the 2012 Qualifying Tour with World Championship Tour aspirations on the horizon.

Men’s Marketing Manager, Heath Walker, states, “Luke, at the age of 19, has all the tools to achieve anything he sets out to do. His surfing is maturing day by day as he combines new school creativity maneuvers with big, powerful turns on the open face. Luke brings a surge of energy and a style all his own, in and out of the water.”

Kai Otton, the goofy-footer hailing from Tathra, NSW, Australia, has been a mainstay on the ASP World Tour since qualifying in 2007.

Walker continued, “Not only does Kai bring a high level of competitive surfing to the table, he brings a certain image that fits our brand and the direction of where Reef apparel is headed. He’ll be a strong driving force for Reef.”

When asked about his recent move to the Reef team, Kai commented, “Leaving Insight was one of the hardest things I had to do…those guys are like family. Looking forward, Reef has such a great plan in place for me, and I felt that it was time for a change. I know I can bring a lot of value to Reef.”

Walker further elaborated about the dynamics of the newly formed Reef apparel team, “Luke represents the future of surfing alongside Kai, an ASP World Tour competitor in the prime of his career. On the other end of the spectrum you have Cyrus who surfs anything that floats and spends most of his time ‘spreading digital aloha’ on his blog, Korduroy.tv. Finally, you have the re-invented Nick Rozsa along with the ultimate Modern Gypsy, Mikala Jones, both powerful free surfers who are just living the dream.”
