FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Surfline Forecasts Contestable Swell During Contest Period

LONG BEACH, New York (Sept. 7, 2010) – The Nike 6.0 Unsound Jr. Pro Junior is set to kick-off Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at National Boulevard, Long Beach, New York. The event will be webcast live at http://www.nike6unsoundjrpro.com/. Day 1 of the competition will begin at 7:30 AM (EST).

Surfline, official event forecaster for the ASP Grade-4 Nike 6.0 Unsound Jr. Pro, is currently monitoring an area of low pressure that is moving through the Great Lakes region and will drag a cold front towards the East Coast on Wednesday.  This frontal boundary slides offshore overnight Wednesday.  High pressure builds into the region for Friday and Saturday.  Another frontal boundary approaches late Sunday.

FORECAST:

WEDNESDAY 8TH
SWELL/SURF: Short period 2-3’ SSW windswell/chop develops through the day with bigger peaks possible during the late morning/afternoon.  Underlying SE background swell is also in the water but this will largely be masked by the dominant windswell/chop.
WINDS/CONDITIONS: Expect choppy/disorganized conditions with SW winds 12-17kts and gusty bending more WSW/W for the afternoon.

THURSDAY 9TH
SWELL/SURF:
Easing 1-2’+ SSW windswell leftovers/SE background swell mix.
WINDS/CONDITIONS: Conditions are sideshore/bumpy with WNW winds 11-16kts.

FRIDAY 10TH
SWELL/SURF:
Small scale knee high SE background swell with inconsistent plus sets in the thigh high range.  Surf will likely struggling through the early high tide so rideability will be best around the lower tides during the afternoon.
WINDS/CONDITIONS: NW 10-15kts with higher gusts possible.  Winds look to ease in the afternoon/evening as high pressure builds towards the region.

SATURDAY 11TH
SWELL/SURF:
Small scale knee high SE background swell.  Again, expect the surf to struggle through the morning high tide so rideability will be best around the lower tides during the afternoon.
WINDS/CONDITIONS: Light offshore early becoming S/SW 5-10kts in the afternoon.

SUNDAY 12TH
SWELL/SURF:
Small scale knee high SE background swell/SSW windswell/chop.  Again, expect the surf to struggle through the morning high tide so rideability will be best around the lower tides during the afternoon.
WINDS/CONDITIONS: S/SW 5-10kts early increasing to 9-13kts in the afternoon.
