NEW YORK SURF FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTED BY JET BLUE AIRWAYS AND PUERTO PLATA IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ANNOUNCES THE INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM PROGRAM

New York, NY [September 1st, 2010] – The New York Surf Film Festival (NYSFF) presented by JetBlue Airways and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic has put together an eclectic short film program encompassing animation, environmental documentaries, comedy, abstract cinema and more. The NYSFF opens Friday, September 24th with a stacked program that will be sure to get audiences hooting and stoked. Each short film is under thirty minutes providing the filmmakers with a great opportunity to show off their creativity within this limited time frame.

“We like to joke that the best films submitted are shorts and this year is no different! The shorts program reflects the international community and diversity of subject matter in which the more obscure aspects of surf culture and history are explored. Not to mention, the majority of them were made by women which we’re proud to show!” said co-founder Michael Machemer of the NYSFF.

Known for its award-winning service, free TV and its low fares, JetBlue is now pleased to offer customers Lots of Legroom and super-spacious Even More Legroom seats. JetBlue introduced complimentary in-flight e-mail and instant messaging services on aircraft “BetaBlue,” a first among U.S. domestic airlines. Puerto Plata in the DR
The North Coasts’ original sightseer, Christopher Columbus, named the area’s first city Puerto Plata or “Silver Port” in 1942, due to the effect that the sun made on the water as his ship approached land. Today, the DR’s North Coast is the perfect combination of both relaxation and adventure, as Puerto Plata and surrounding beach towns of Cofresí, Cabarete, and Sosúa boasts the best in sun, sand and of course, surf. In fact, Cabarete is nicknamed The Kiteboard Capital of the World because it offers consistent eastern trade winds and warm water, ideal for any water sports enthusiast. Here, visitors aren’t tourists, but travelers – where late-night merengue dancing, thrilling eco-adventure, chic accommodations, luxe pampering, prehistoric culture and warm hospitality all collide. For more information on Puerto Plata, visit the DR Ministry of Tourism’s official website: www.GoDominicanRepublic.com.
