Body Glove Signs Jamie O’Brien

Body Glove Inc. signs international professional surfer J.O.B. to a lucrative three year sponsorship for clothing and wetsuits

TUESDAY, March 1, 2011. Redondo Beach, CA: Body Glove announced this week that Hawaiian phenom Jamie O’Brien signed a three year deal as a sponsored rider for Body Glove apparel and wetsuits.

“Over the years we have developed a successful track record of working closely with top ten surf athletes as well as strongly rooted Hawaiians. To have both in one rider speaks to our strong heritage in surfing and is a pleasant reminder of past relationships like our sponsorship of Bruce Irons,” said Matt Patterson, core surf sales manager.

Although O’Brien has snubbed much of professional surfing’s competitive arena he has still managed to rack up an impressive list of wins including the prestigious Pipeline Masters in 2004 and the Hansen’s Pipeline Pro in 2003. “We don’t want to push Jamie to do anything with contests,” said Body Glove owner and CEO Robbie Meistrell. “He is the best judge of his strengths and we trust him to do what he does best.”

O’Brien’s most notable contributions to the professional surf landscape have undoubtedly been the development of his own movies: Freakshow, Freakside and most recently WHO IS J.O.B. which won him the honor of BEST SURF VIDEO at the SURFER MAGAZINE SURFER POLL and VIDEO AWARDS 2010. “Jamie’s movie takes it to another level with not only amazing surfing but the best waves I’ve ever seen. Working with someone like Jamie, who puts so much effort into what he does, is going to be amazing. I am so stoked to travel with Jamie, Alex, Cheyne and the rest of the crew, I can’t wait.” said Greg Browning, Director of Body Glove Entertainment.

Billy Meistrell, owner and VP of Body Glove said, “We’re all stoked to sign Jamie O’Brien and add him to our team. It is great to have a full package rider that we believe will sync well with our brand. Jamie embodies our love for the ocean and fits well into our Body Glove family.”
