Week in Review

Random happenings in surf for the Week of November 28

| posted on December 03, 2011

The Triple Crown proceeded this week, as well as these far less important items.

Kelly Slater and Marissa Miller
On OceanDrive.com, Kelly Slater plays interviewer with supermodel Marisa Miller. In it, she talks about her model of stand-up paddleboards, the Marisa Miller Surftech line. “I really wanted to do a black one, and they thought I was crazy. After the orders came in, it was 70 percent for the black [boards], so I was like, Yes! Told you guys! Not every girl wants pink!”

In Other Ridiculous Stand-Up Paddle News…
An American Girl doll was recently released with a stand-up paddleboard as her definitive accessory. Should we be worried?

Brainwashing them young...

Surfers Seek Girls Blonde, Collegiate, and Ditzy
The San Diego State University Surf Team made this little gem of a video in an attempt to get dates with sorority girls.

Sally Gets Sexy
You know her as the fierce competitor who battled Carissa for the World Title in 2011. Here, we see a more naked, less aggressive Sally Fitzgibbons in this month’s edition of “Stab Persuades Surfer Girls to Take Their Tops Off.” Oh, and then Erica Hosseini one-upped her.

The WaveJet Alternative?
This steal of a deal showed up on on eBay a few weeks ago. The seller describes this motorized surfboard by saying: “This thing is completely custom as I said. You can put mini bilge pumps in it, led’s all over it, put steering on it, mount cameras all over it for a close view to danger…,. the possibilities are endless. Finish it for a couple hundred. Or, pay $4500 and buy a wavejet….Kooks!” It sold for $78.11 to an eBay buyer named nattyice.

Only $78.11! What a steal!

Ridiculousness
…with Matt Wilkinson and friends.

“Anastasia Ashley is Obsessed…”
According to Sporty News (not sure exactly what that is, or why they considered this news), Anastasia is obsessed with a tiny dog she has never actually encountered in real life.

Surfing… And Sharks
It was only a matter of time, really. Two things so beloved by Internet prowlers and ocean humans will merge in a new documentary about surfing…and sharks! In one place. Click away. I know it intrigues you.

Asking to be Electrocuted
This week, 17 Bondi surfers donned flouro wetsuits for the largest-ever glow-in-the-dark surf attempt.

Pro Surfer Problems

The Sincerest Form of Flattery?
Last week, SurfersVillage released an oddly familiar article, with an oddly familiar title. So did these guys and these guys.

yeah, you guys invented the ‘week in review’ concept, right? i suppose imitation is the sincerest form of flattery: “the week in review has been a mainstay at the Times since its inception in 1935.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/19/new-york-times-week-in-re_n_825496.html i guess they could have gotten creative with their titles, at the least.
