Piha, New Zealand – Sunday, January 25 – The sun came out today in Piha and all remaining PacSun USA Surf Team athletes competed. The swell dropped over night, but progressively picked up again throughout the day.

In the Under 18 Boys, Evan Geiselman opened up for the USA Team and had a great heat – which he won handily. Evan Thompson struggled and was sent to the Repercharge Round. Andrew Doheny, already in the Repercharge Round, continued his long march forward and advanced through his heat.

The Under 16 Boys continued their dominance with all four advancing in the Qualifying Round.

In the Girls Division, Kaleigh Gilchrist was sent into the Repercharge in her early heat, Lakey Peterson advanced in the Qualifying Round. In the afternoon, Taylor Pitz and Courtney Conlogue were in the same heat against Hawaiians Malia Manuel and Nage Melamed. Taylor surfed very well and finished in second place and advanced behind Malia Manuel – while Courtney Conlogue place third and was sent into the Repercharge Round.

“Big day today,” said Ian Cairns, Head Coach of the PacSun USA Surf Team. “The swell picked up again in the afternoon and the weather has improved. The PacSun USA Surf Team continues its march toward the medals.”
