What do Angels and Airwaves, Jake Brown, Koa Smith, Brock Little, and Ryan Sheckler all have in common? Well, they’re all badasses, yes, but beyond that they will all be rocking out in a huge way at the 35th Annual SURFER Poll Awards Presented by Suzuki Auto. The big night is less than two weeks away, and everyone is on hinge with anticipation.
“We can’t wait,” says SURFER Editor Chris Mauro. “This year’s SURFER Poll has got some of the biggest names in surfing, action sports, and entertainment, and it’s going to be better than ever.”
Only 13 surfers have been crowned Men’s Surfer Poll champions in the 35 year history of the event, making it the most prestigious honor in all of surfing.
Aside from the attractions, fans are probably anxious to know who will win the crown this year? The parity abounds more abundantly than ever as Mick leads the WCT, Kelly is charging as always, and the rest of the pack proves equally appealing.
So how can you make sure you don’t miss a second of all the action? From the red carpet entrance to the after-party, tune in to the SurferMag.com Webcast to watch grom extraoirdinare, Koa Smith, antagonize all the starlets and celebrities. Believe us, this kid’s got spunk. Not to mention the fact that Tom Delonge’s (formerly of Blink-182) new band, Angels and Airwaves, will be headlining the show – the surf industry is ready to converge on the Grove in Anaheim, September 11th, and rock out.
More information on the 35th Annual SURFER Poll Presented by Suzuki Auto:
Beginning in 1963, SURFER Magazine asked its core audience to make a call on who they felt were the best surfers in the world. Thus began the Surfer Poll. For decades since, readers have continually guided this process with their votes, and as a result, the Surfer Poll has become an annual celebration driven by the masses, a crucial element that provides the awards with its prestige.
While there’s movement within the Top 10 of the Surfer Poll each year, only 13 surfers have been crowned Men’s Surfer Poll champions in the 35 year history of the event, making it the most prestigious honor in all of surfing — more so than an ASP World Title.
Past male winners include Phil Edwards, Tom Curren, Andy Irons, and Kelly Slater. Female winners include, Joyce Hoffman, Lisa Andersen, Rochelle Ballard and Sofia Mulanovich.
