THE RIP CURL RIGHT COAST RAID: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Costa Mesa, CA (August 25, 2008): 7 Days, 4 icons, 2 World Champions, 1 bus, 1 coast, and a lifetime of memories for thousands, the Rip Curl Right Coast absolutely lit up the entire Eastern seaboard, as Mick Fanning, Tom Curren, Taylor Knox, and Pancho Sullivan teamed up to bring the noise to the East Coast.
With in store appearances, Shop Surf Exhibitions, movie premieres, dinners, music shows, and some tight scheduling, the Right Coast Raid was a success to say the least. “I don’t think this could have possibly gone any better,” said a reflective Taylor Knox. “From the amount of stoked kids and genuine surf fans I met this past week, coupled with some of the largest promotional events I have ever seen, we got ‘er done!”
Aside from the palm pressing, poster signing, and high fives, the boys managed to show why they are considered the World’s best surfers as well. A Right Coast Raid Shop Exhibition in the Outer Banks, where each icon teamed up with an account, proved victorious for WRV. An exhibition at the ECSC, where the event was put on hold for an hour to showcase the Right Coast Raid talent drew hundreds to the shoreline to watch the boys’ every move. And, finally, the 2nd Right Coast Raid Shop Exhibition at New Smyrna Inlet was the platform for Maui Nix to emerge victorious.
“This tour can only be described as historical,” said Rip Curl Marketing Director, Dylan Slater. “I was on board to witness the impact of putting 4 guys of this caliber together in one of the most surf-stoked areas of the world. I saw people sing songs, paint pictures, and lose it over these guys. It was incredible.”
Current reigning ASP World Champion and newest fan of southern culture, Mick Fanning shared the same sentiments, “I was in awe of the turnouts for these promotions. People are so genuine and polite over here on the East Coast…it was refreshing. Epic week.”
