Irate New Zealander mid-confrontation with police, before the tasering.

A dozen police and firemen showed up when a 43 year-old New Zealand surfer went nuts at a Haleiwa surf shop yesterday at about 4:20 PM. "Police finally had to taser him, he would not listen to the officers, was bleeding badly and kept darting into the road stopping traffic and acting nuts, I have never seen anything like it," longtime north shore resident John "Juan Jose" Jones said.

Witnesses said the surfer, wearing only trunks and a dark t-shirt, walked into Planet Surf Hawaii located at 66-150 Kam. Hwy, in the heart of Haleiwa, and started acting "weird". He followed the store owner around the shop and suddenly became aggressive, yelling profanities and insults before punching the owner in the face.

"I saw the guy run out of the store yelling, 'F**k You... f***ing cheap skate... or something like that, then he lifts this head high wooden Tiki carving and hurls it through the window of the store," Jones said. "The owner and the New Zealand surfer then fought until people driving by stopped their cars and broke it up," Jones added.

"A few minutes later 6 or more police officers arrived one by one and had no luck calming the man down. Finally an officer with a yellow taser gun walked up, smiled, and asked the man to give up, twice, and then used the Taser gun to bring him down," Jones said.

The crazed surfer was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital where he was treated for removal of the Taser prongs and cuts to his head and face. He remains in police custody for third-degree criminal property damage and third degree assault.

Police reported that was the fourth time they have had to use the Taser gun on the North Shore.
