Kelly Honored by the Lakers
Apparently, 10 world titles gets you more than just the cover of SURFER these days. Last night, the LA Lakers honored Kelly Slater with a private party for him and 20 of his closest friends in the Chairman’s room at the Staples Center before the Lakers laced up against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Donning a Lakers jersey emblazoned with the number 10, after the pre-party Slater perched himself on his courtside seats while the players were introduced. In a move to honor the champ, Slater was handed the game ball which he presented to the ref at center court just prior to tip-off. The games’ commentator went on to commend Kelly’s accomplishments while the jumbotron played footage of the champ in his element to the crowd that numbered near 18, 000.
Unfortunately, despite Kelly’s support and enthusiasm, the Lakers got owned by the Grizzlies. We heard the surfing cake the Lakers made him was nothing short of delicious, though.

Pro basketball players and marriage proposals took a backseat on the jumbotron to the 10-time world champ.

Whether the Lakers win or lose, a cake featuring a frosted version of your likeness always ensures a good time.

Hopefully they didn’t have him on the court anywhere near the Lakers, that would undo years of work to make slater look taller than 5’6″.
