    Surfer Magazine,

It’s been a long since dream of mine to work for SurferMag. The break-a-way moment came two months ago while in HALEIWA, Oahu, Hawaii for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. It was the women’s finals at the Cholo’s Hawaiian Pro and Stephanie Gilmore was ripping like crazy! It was that day that I realized that the Action Sports Industry is really where I need to be! Surfing is my passion, my natural high, and it’s where i feel most in my element. I’m 18 years old and I am finishing up my senior year in high school. I live on the east coast where I have been lifeguarding for close to four years now and I really just want to get into the industry as soon as possible. Media Relations or somewhere in that particular field is what I’m going for. I would love to get out there ASAP. Can you please advise me on whats the next step?

You can email me back at or even reach me on my
    cell (912)508-9466

    Means so Much,
    Chase Feus

  • Will Renfroe

Hi my name is Will Renfroe and I am a recent fine art graduate from the University of North Florida. Working for surfer magazine is my ultimate dream career. I am very proficient in editing raw images, converting them into jpeg format and getting them publish ready. I shoot with a canon 60D body, a 70-200 mm f/2.8 usm canon lens, a super wide angle 10-22mm sigma and a medium zoom 17-55mm sigma. I began my professional work shooting for a local Jacksonville Beach news paper, the Beaches Leader. After having my work published a number of times, I discovered my passion is editorial photography. I decided to expand my horizons if you will, and began to shoot local concerts as a freelance artist. That is when the fun began. Lighting inside concert venues are ever changing and sometimes impossible to deal with. One has to wait, looking into the view finder for the correct exposure. I have shot national touring artists such as Railroad Earth and Anders Osborne.

I have been surfing since I was in the 7th grade. Everything about being in or around the water is part of my culture and life. I could not live more than 30 miles from any body of water. Aside from the love of the ocean, my passion is in photography. My father was an amateur photographer, and I have studied intensively on fine art, not commercial photography. Anyone can take a photo, but do they know how to properly compose and include design elements into a picture. Do they understand how to shoot manually or edit an image from its purest form which is a raw image. Along with my passion for surfing, I can bring to the table all those photography skills. I hope to hear back from you. Best wishes-Will Renfroe.
