For those of you not in the know, Hawaii’s Alex Smith has been turning a lot of heads as of late. Older brother to the ever-charismatic Koa Smith, Alex has been setting the Under-18 surf world ablaze, one spit-shined and highly polished cutback at a time. After making two finals at the NSSA Nationals (finishing second in the Explorer Juniors Division and third in the Open Mens Division), Alex would further his reputation by winning this year’s Rip Curl GromSearch at Salt Creek. The kid’s super mellow and, aside from a peculiar love affair with an obese cat, surprisingly normal and down to earth. For a look at surfing’s Generation Next, take a gander at Alex Smith.

When I’m not surfing I am: Cruising with friends, on my computer, doing schoolwork, drawing, painting surfboards, playing Wii, golfing, and playing tennis all at the same time.
The most important thing in my life right now: My family and my cat Meishkie. My family and I are really close; they’re always there for me. My cat Meishkie is really fat and she always makes me crack up.
In five years I will definitely be: I’ll be 21 and on the tour with my future girlfriend, living the dream…that’s my goal.
