Goliaths of the Pacific

Former SURFER Photo Editor Jason Murray puts his life's work on display at the Kona Gallery in San Clemente.

Big Wave surf fans gathered at the Kona Gallery in San Clemente on Friday to celebrate former SURFER Photo Editor, Jason Murray’s work. Titled: Goliaths of the Pacific-Big Wave Hunters consists of 18 limited edition archival print. The show runs until December 15th, 2011.

Mark Healey, The Yeti, 2008. Mark Healey en route to winning the 2008 XXL Monster Tube of the Year Award. If he wasn’t wearing a wetsuit, you’d swear this was a green day at Teahupoo. Limited Edition archival print 32 x 44” Photo: Murray

Mavericks Lineup, Half Moon Bay, 2010. Combine frigid water temps, a stiff off shore breeze and a monster of a wave and the result is a lot of empty Mavericks waves. Limited Edition archival print 32 x 80” Photo: Murray

Puerto Perfection, 2010 There is a good reason why this line-up is empty: Puerto is the heaviest beach break in the world. As the swell fills in late in the day, this 20’ set was a sign of the good things to come. Limited Edition archival print 32 x 80” Photo: Murray

The Waiting Game, Todos Santos, 2007 Most of the surfing experience is not spent riding waves. With big wave surfing, the time is exponentially less. Rusty Long, Grant Twiggy Baker and Greg Long wait for opportunity to intersect with preparation. Limited Edition archival print 32 x 44” Photo: Murray

Scratchin’, Killers, 2007 Jamie Mitchell and Mark Healey claw over one of the biggest waves that Todos Santos has ever seen. Good thing Jamie and Mark know a thing or two about paddling. Limited Edition archival print 32 x 44” Photo: Murray

Goliaths of the Pacific is proudly supported by: Quiksilver, Peligroso Tequila, Daphne’s, PBR.
