A kneeboarder was close to death while at 54th Street in Newport Beach this past past week, but was saved by people out in the line-up and on the sand. Kenny Honingford took off on a set wave, he drove down the line, the wave closed out and the lip clipped his board which sent it flying. It hit him in the forehead, causing a gash above his eye, and it apparently knocked him unconscious.
Geoff Moysea saw Kenny floating face down in the surf. He called for help, and the crew of guys in the water which included Pat Towersey went into action. As they brought him in, they yelled to the beach for help, they mobilized his head and neck and got him to the sand as fast as they could. Not an easy task, as Kenny is a big guy.
