California Surf Museum Hosts Fundraiser This Saturday

In honor of our 50th Anniversary, this Saturday night (November 21, 2009) the California Surf Museum in Oceanside, California is hosting a 50th Anniversary Tribute fundraiser as part of the museum’s California Surf Film Festival, which spans the coming weekend (November 19-22).

The SURFER Magazine Tribute will feature legendary publishers and editors sharing stories behind the making of the magazine. Former Editors Drew Kampion, Steve Pezman, Jim Kempton, Paul Holmes, Matt Warshaw, Steve Hawk, Evan Slater, Sam George, and Chris Mauro, and current Editor-in-Chief, Joel Patterson, will be present to share stories and anecdotes. Sean McNulty will be on hand to represent his father Patrick McNulty, whose early contributions helped to set the foundation for the magazine.

Each of SURFER’s five decades will be given tribute by legendary surfers such as Skip Frye (1960s), Shaun Tomson (1970s), and Rob Machado (1990s). A slideshow of 50 years of SURFER images arranged by Photo Editors Grant Ellis and JP Van Swae will be shown, along with a video montage of the best of SURFER TV put together by its producer Ira Opper, as well as a special tribute to the legends of the lens Jeff Divine and Art Brewer. The evening will be a gathering of the tribe, a celebration of the magazine, and a reunion of like-minded individuals sharing stories.

The night begins at the California Surf Museum in Oceanside at 6:00 pm for an exclusive VIP reception, which includes dinner and drinks. VIP Tickets are $75 each and include dinner, drinks, and reserved seating at the Tribute. Space is limited so purchase your tickets today at californiasurffestival.com or surfmuseum.org. For additional ticket information call (760) 721-6876.

The Tribute will be held at 8:00 pm at the Grace Theater, located at 102 North Freeman Street in Oceanside. Tickets for the Tribute only are $35 and also available at californiasurffestival.com or surfmuseum.org. Doors will open at 7:00 pm. But tickets are selling fast, so you may want to book online.

A special after-party immediately following the Tribute, will be held at Harney Sushi, 301 Mission Ave. in Oceanside to continue the night with music, laughter, and sushi.
