6.5 Quake Hits off California Coast

The news media is reporting that a 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of California today. The quake began at approximately 4.27 p.m, Saturday and has effected the areas in and around Eureka. According to a report from the LA  Timeswebsite, thus far, the damage seems minimal.

“Right now it’s very preliminary but there does not seem to be any damage that is overly significant.” said Capt. Dale Cannon to the LA Times. “We’ve got some minor glass breakage, some gas mains affected and some power lines down.”

    I was on the beach at a rivermouth. Just before the quake, there was like a tidal bore that went through the rivermouth. It was the first quake I enjoyed because I wasn’t worried about the house falling down on me. It was an up and down earthquake, not side to side. I was actually jumping up and down with it as if it was an elevator.
