40' Swells, Sandbags, and SURFER Staffers with Shovels

| posted on December 05, 2009

The 40-foot swell anticipated for Monday will dwarf today’s massive 20-foot-plus surf that has already taken out the bottom steps of our beachfront Pupukea house. So in preparation, the property manager, Neil, brought over shovels, sand bags, and plywood this afternoon to build a makeshift barrier to protect the beautiful, newly remodeled house. Like little kids excited to build a new fort, the “SURFER-staff relief workers” got in on the action, merrily filling sand bags and pounding driftwood into the ground with a sledge-hammer. One 30-foot wave will easily knock it all over, but it was fun anyway.
