SHOPS TO WATCH
Southeast

Sunrise Surf Shop: Headed by double-whammy artists Robert Rohman and Jason Motes, Sunrise edged out 2-time undefeated champions Quiet Flight for this year’s Southeast Regional championship title. After dispatching their local rivals, the Sunrise team then showed up in Southern California and held off a surging Revolution team from Ventura to take the win and the $10,000 prize at the National Championships. An avid supporter of local surf talent, this crew possesses an illustrious aerial repertoire and competitive drive. With a focus on the local surfer and surf community, and some serious North Florida pride, look for Sunrise to come on strong again in both this year’s regional and national events.

Quiet Flight: The classic Cocoa Beach surf shop, representing America’s professional surfing breeding ground, this team won the Southeast Regional Shop Challenge contest two years in a row in 2004 and 2005. Led by David Awbrey, Nick Piette, Buddy Favor and former WCT pro Bryan Hewitson, the Quiet Flight squad has a refined and strategic approach that has proven strong in contest situations. Look for them to show up to the Southeast event with a huge chip on their shoulder, and a desire to reclaim the tickets to California they’d grown used to receiving.

Ocean Magic: Hailing from Jupiter, Florida, Ocean Magic emerged from a stormy Southeast qualifier in third place last year, coming in just behind two time regional champions Quiet Flight, and 2006 Shop Challenge National Champions Sunrise. After being edged by such respectable competition, yet tasting success, don’t be surprised if this shop mounts an assault for the top position in the Southeast in 2007.
