QUIKSILVER SURF SHOP CHALLENGE

Rules and Regulations
1) Shop Team Qualifications:
Team must consist of 4 team members, 2 shop employees and 2 shop team riders
“Employee Contestant” is any shop employee that works the retail floor on a regular basis, receive a W2 for 2007, and must been employed for 180 days.
Sponsored team riders can be amateur or professional.
Each rider must complete and sign the Official Entry Form located at quiksilver.com/qssc07.
2) Regional Finalists:
If for any reason a substitute shop member is needed for final event, the shop must advise Quiksilver in writing by 7/15/07 to:

A request for more than one substitute, will void surf shop’s participation in final event and 2nd place regional team will be offered spot.
3) Regional Events:
There must be a minimum of six shops per regional event to hold event.
Event will be run in a tag team format.
4) Final Event:
Southwest Regional winners are responsible for transportation to final event. A five-night accommodation will be provided for five shop members, if necessary. Each shop member will receive a $50 per diem.
Southeast, Northeast, Northwest and Hawaii Regional winners will be flown economy class to final to be held in Southern California, given five nights accommodations (double occupancy) and mid-size rental car for five shop members. Each shop member will receive a $50 per diem.
Shop is responsible for all additional expenses (including without limitation, transportation and costs for any additional members, any extensions in stay or room upgrades, room charges, etc.)
5) Format
There will be 6 teams competing at one time per heat (24 maximum teams per regional event).
Each heat will be 1 hour in duration, although heat duration may change prior to the event start depending on conditions. Once event director has determined heat duration prior to the start of event, the heat duration cannot change.
Each team member may catch a maximum of three 3 waves, the top two highest waves will be tallied and each team members top two waves will be added together for final team score for that round.
Heat advancement will be by rounds, after each round the highest point total teams will advance to the next round (50% advancement per round). Point total starts fresh for each round.
Double Whammy- Each team will elect one team member to use “double whammy” on 1 of his waves. Competitors “double whammy” wave will be worth double the points awarded on that particular wave, competitor must raise both hands within 10 seconds after he kicks out or falls off to be awarded the “double whammy”.
Points will be scored on a 1-10 system, using .5 increments.
In case of a tie for advancement, only the tied teams scores will be re-tallied, Re-tallied as follows: each competitor will be scored on their top wave only, if the tie still accurse, each competitor’s third wave will be added.
ASP interference rule will apply, but only blatant interference will be called.
6) Point Deductions:
Point deductions will be taken off teams final score for that round only.
Competitors must tag their team member in the designated area before they enter the water (2 point deduction).
Each competitor must enter the designated area before the heat is over, if any team member does not reach the area in time, (5 point deduction).
If competitor goes over the wave maximum (1 point deduction).
