East Coast Surfing Championships Loves Danny's Waves

TROPICAL STORM DANNY AND THE 47TH ANNUAL EAST COAST SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS Produces “Epic” Surf for Virginia Beach Contest; Everything Goes On As Scheduled

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The producers of the 47th annual East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC), being held this weekend at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront have confirmed that ECSC “will” continue as planned, pending any unanticipated weather changes posed by Tropical Storm Danny.

“The show is ON, and the waves are epic,” said George Alcaraz, general manager of ECSC.

“Naturally, we’ll be in constant communications with the proper authorities and public safety officials during the next 48 hours.”

As of the last official National Weather Service advisory, ECSC organizers do not anticipate having to cancel, postpone or reschedule any portion of the planned Schedule of Events. Alcaraz cautioned the public not to believe any unofficial statement about ECSC without confirming it by visiting the official ECSC website: www.surfecsc.com.

“Any official change in our plans will be made public through reputable news sources on TV, radio and newspapers, as well as our official website. Until such time, we are proceeding as planned and as scheduled,” Alcaraz said. The official ECSC Schedule of Events is also available online at http://www.surfecsc.com/events.html.

The ECSC is North America’s oldest surfing contest and the second oldest continuously-run surfing contest in the world. The total prize purse for the men’s professional division at ECSC is $10,000. Hundreds of amateur surfers will compete, with many of the top-ranked women’s and men’s division surfers trying to improve their amateur circuit standings.
