Dillon Perillo and Dean Brady Announced as Wildcards for Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, California/USA (Tuesday, October 25, 2011) – After spending nearly every waking minute for 6 months Searching the Indonesia Archipelago last year for Rip Curl’s thoroughly documented Tip-to-Tip Search project, Dillon Perillo and Dean Brady find themselves paired up again…this time to take on the World’s best surfers as wildcards in the 2011 Rip Curl Pro Search “Somewhere in San Francisco”, set to go off November 1 – 12.

For Perillo, this opportunity presents the chance for sweet redemption. Being the wildcard recipient of the 2010 Rip Curl Pro Search “Somewhere in Puerto Rico”, Perillo opened the eyes of global surf fans and enthusiasts with a valiant showcase of his effortless style and progressive repertoire. However, both those attributes failed to help him advance past Kelly Slater and Taj Burrow in rounds 1 and 2 respectively.

“I’m excited to be competing in the Search for the second year in a row,” said Perillo, “especially since this year it’s in California—my home state—which makes me even more excited to surf my hardest and try to take down a few of the world’s best surfers.”

For Dean Brady, being the lowest seeded surfer in the Rip Curl Pro Search will see him face Kelly Slater, who is sitting at the brink of an unprecedented 11th ASP World Title. Undoubtedly, the potential for larger surf at Ocean Beach will suit the 25-year old, 6’5” Australian seamlessly.

“I love free-surfing and getting paid to travel, but to be able to have a crack at the world’s best surfer is fantastic,” said Brady. “All the pressure will be on [Slater]; he has another World Title at stake and I’ve got nothing at stake, so I’m pretty relaxed about it. Anything can happen in a heat and I’d love to beat Kelly to help Owen Wright win the World Title instead.”

The Rip Curl Pro Search “Somewhere in San Francisco” is stop number 10 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Tour with a waiting period from November 1-12. The 2011 Pro Search will be broadcast live on Fuel TV, Livestream.com and live.ripcurl.com
