Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championships Presents 6-Star Prime Rote Open 2009 International Surfing Competition

The Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championships (ISC) is proud to announce that they will be the presenting sponsor for the 6-Star Prime Rote Open 2009 international surfing competition to be held on the island of Rote in Eastern Indonesia from September 16-19, 2009.

As part of the Visit Indonesia Year 2009 international tourism effort, the provincial government of Rote in East Nusa Tenggara has initiated and funded this major surfing competition in order to promote the island as an international surfing and tourist destination.

To ensure a professional and well-attended event, the government has enlisted the services of the Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship Tour to run the competition as the sanctioning body as well as to promote the event as the presenting sponsor. “We know we have a rich natural resource in surfing with our island of Rote and want to share it with the world, but we’re not surfing experts, so we’re happy to have the ISC helping us to make it a successful event”, said Mr. Leonardus Hanning, the Regent of Rote.

The Rote Open 2009 Presented by Coca-Cola ISC will be a 6-star prime ISC professional surfing competition offering up a total prize purse of $7,000 USD spread over three divisions of competitors, Open Pro, Masters, and Women’s Open. The first place finisher in the Open Pro division will come home with $2,000 USD, which is certain to attract both national and international surfers.

The venue for the competition will be the righthand reef break of Bo’a, just a few minutes south of the town of Nemberala. Bo’a is a high performance wave that has hosted several other contests in the past, providing a perfect venue for both spectators and surfers alike. According to ISC CEO Tipi Jabrik, who is also a professional surfer, “I have surfed this wave many times over the past few years, and it really allows for a great variety of manuevers, making it fun for both the surfers and for those watching on the beach. I can’t wait to get there!”

A special event package has been created in order to provide optimum transportation and accommodation services for the event, with a price of $400/375 USD (International/Indonesian), which includes airfare/transportation to and from Bali, lodging, meals, and the entry fee for the competition. Participants will leave from Bali on the 14th of September, flying to the city of Kupang in West Timor and then traveling by boat to Rote, then returning to Bali on the 20th. Non-surfers and not-competition surfers who just want to experience Rote and its environs are also encouraged to take advantage of this special travel package.

The Rote Open 2009 will also act as a tourism promotion event, showing off not only the waves but also the beauty of the island. During the four days of competition there will also be various local programs staged to allow the participants experience more of the culture, meet the local people, and tour several of the many scenic spots around the island.

The Rote Open 2009 is proudly sponsored and supported by the Government of Rote Ndao, the Coca-Cola ISC Tour, Garuda Indonesia, TransNusa Airlines, L’Ultimo Paradiso, PTR Communications, Lines Magz, Surftime Magazine, and Magic Wave Surf Community Newspaper.
