Teahupoo Through Slater’s Eyes

Ya think he knows a thing or two about this reef pass?

| posted on August 20, 2014

During a lay day of the Billabong Pro Tahiti, Kelly Slater hopped in a helicopter to give a bird’s-eye breakdown of Teahupoo (see the 12-second mark for the proper pronunciation). As expected, Teahupoo remains one of the most beautiful and downright terrifying waves on the planet, even from above. Between the narrow channels that cut through the shallow lagoon, the massive mountains standing vigil over the break, and the reef shelf where the wave breaks, Slater gives insight from a vantage point you’ve likely never seen.
