“Ryan Callinan is a young surfer from New Castle, Australia, who I met in Hawaii last season,” says Morgan Maassen. “His smooth style, amazing airs and exuberance for ping-pong immediately made him one of my favorite surfers to hang out with. Even on the small, windy, stormy days at Rocky’s that anyone else would write off, Ryan would still paddle out with a ear-to-ear grin and proceed to fly all around the place, as seen here.” Photo: Maassen
“Silvana Lima flies under the radar of most surfers and spectators, but her amazing surfing has captivated me since we first met in Tahiti,” says Morgan Maassen. “Later on, while shooting in Hawaii, she proceeded to tear Rocky Rights to shreds, blasting huge airs and throwing down amazing turns. Here she has a post-session laugh about something probably at my expense, like my poor comprehension of her Brazilian accent.” Photo: Maassen
“It was my first time on the beach at Waimea Bay during the Eddie ceremony a few weeks ago,” says Bryce Lowe-White. “As the sun set, the Bay really lit up and the surfers made it down to the waters edge for the paddle out. I was amazed at the power and beauty of the Bay and its surroundings.” Photo: Lowe-White
“While Dylan Graves was busy with the Rip Curl Search Contest, Sterling Spencer took Puerto Rico by storm, plundering the island for all of its women, waves and rum,” says Morgan Maassen. “On the tenth day of his seige, he stood atop the highest sand dune and declared himself king of the island. On the eleventh, he flew home.” Photo: Maassen

“This shoot was a recreation of a 1980’s Astrodeck team ad,” says Bryce Lowe-White. “Herbie Fletcher coordinated the photo along with New York artist Julian Schnabel. They brought together all the stars of the past and present, including Kelly Slater, John John, Rory Russel, Julian Wilson, Kolohe, JOB, Rob Machado, the Hos, Alex Knost, Bruce Irons, the Rothmans, Buttons, and more.”
“With all the World leaders in town staying at Nusa Dua most travelling kept away from the surf breaks,” says Jason Childs. “Bali’s expats and locals cleaned up for a few days as the swell pumped in the 4-6 feet range. It meant great uncrowded waves as Bali fired up for the first wet season swell.” Photo: Childs
“This is image was taken in July 2007 on a trip to South Africa with Dane Reynolds and Yadin Nicol,” says Grant Ellis. “This surf spot is right near were I grew up and never used to get this good when I was young. A crazy cyclone that wrecked the coast earlier in the year must have did some good by dumping all this sand at this beachbreak.” Photo: Ellis
“Dan Malloy photographed in 2005 at Rincon on his Quad fin Danny Hess board,” says Todd Glaser. “He was on the fence about surfing this day as the night before was the most crowded he had ever seen it. This morning he ended up getting a bunch of great waves with friends Joe Curren and RK, as well as nailing the cover of the Surfers Journal.” Photo: Glaser
