“I showed up this day in Ireland with Fergal Smith and Tom Doidge,” says Chris Burkard. “After they paddled out, this random guy walked down the cliff and sat down next to me. He said he had always wanted to surf this spot and that today was the day. He paddled out and on his first wave he smashed his face on the reef and almost drowned. Fergal had to basically rescue him. It was crazy because the guy was all laughs when he finally made it to the beach. I’m sure after a couple pints of Guinness this gent most likely forgot all about the stitches in his face.” Photo: Burkard
