This fall, Vans is honored to embark on a second venture with Krochet Kids intl., offering a stylish yet comfortable collection of footwear and a backpack that lives for social change. To celebrate our partnership, Vans surfer Leila Hurst traveled to the Lima with the Krochet Kids team to meet the women who handmade the fabrics used in the collection.
Krochet Kids intl. is a grassroots organization that seeks to help and empower impoverished people in our global community. Using handmade wovens from around the world, Krochet Kids intl. creates unique, handmade products by providing valuable opportunities for developing countries worldwide.
“Our second collaboration with Vans focuses on the craftsmanship and the ladies of our program in Peru,” explained Kohl Crecelius, CEO and Co-Founder of Krochet Kids intl. “We were excited to take a team from Vans down to visit our project location in Lima to show them our work. Having Leila Hurst on the trip gave us the perfect excuse to get in the water and even teach our beneficiaries how to surf!”
The dream began with three childhood friends as they explored and surfed the world. After learning about families in Uganda who had lived in government camps for over 20 years and watched entire generations grow up knowing only the camp and relying solely on limited government aid, three friends were inspired to educate these communities on how to provide for their families. By working with the community and teaching them how to make amazing products with hook and yarn, they have empowered the next generation to rise above poverty.
First introduced solely in the Vans Women’s Surf Collection, Vans expands its collaboration with Krochet Kids intl. featuring one-of-a-kind pieces within the accessories line as well as surf footwear for men and women. Vans’ second project with Krochet Kids intl. brings the woven fabrics of Peruvian craftsmanship to two women’s Surf Siders, the popular Mohikan and a new silhouette, the Alpaca, along with the men’s Rata Mid. Additionally, the collection includes a backpack made of simple canvas and trimmed with a special yarn creation.
Vans has partnered with Krochet Kids intl. in an effort to tell their story and grow this grassroots movement. Every pair purchased will help support their efforts in Peru. A special, hand-signed tag and online profile will allow you to make a personal connection with the woman who crafted the krochet detailing on your Vans x Krochet Kids intl. collection.
The Vans x Krochet Kids intl. collection is available now on Vans.com.
