Sea Of Darkness Encore Screening
Winner Surfer Poll Awards “Best Documentary”
Haleiwa, Hawaii – Dec 8th, 2010) – The SURFER Poll Award took place this week on the North Shore of Hawaii at the Turtle Bay Resort and Sea Of Darkness won Best Documentary for this year. The films was nominated for both Best Surf Film and Best Documentary an unprecedented feat never done before. With a high demand from locals and visitors on the North Shore for the Triple Crown of Surfer an encore screening will take place at the Waialua Community Center on Monday, Dec. 13th, to celebrate a prestigious win for this independent surf film.
Directed by Michael Oblowitz, Sea Of Darkness shares the true story of the start of the surf camp Gland in Indonesian. A group of thrill seeking adventure surfers whose quest for great waves turns their lives around to dark days in paradise. With interviews with Rory Russell, Greg Noll, Bob McKnight, Bruce Raymond and Martin Daly, whose boat Indies Trader became the Quiksilver Crossing boat in the early 2000’s. The film is written and directed by Michael Oblowitz, a lifelong surfer from South Africa and this is his first surf film.
This past year has been a global recognition for the film now winning ten awards at some of the most prestigious Film Festivals and Surf Film Festivals in the world. Michael Oblowitz, who is currently filming the Sunny Garcia documentary, will be on hand as well as others who are featured in the film.
Tickets are $10, and doors open at 7 pm with the show starting at 7:30 pm and proceeds are being raised for the Rell Sunn Bronze Memorial and the Mauli Ola Foundation for assist people with cystic fibrosis. www.mauliola.org<http://www.mauliola.org/> www.rellsunn.com <http://www.rellsunn.com/>
