San Onofre Toll Road Hearing in Costa Mesa March 13

Public Hearing March 13 for Toll Road Extension Threatening San Onofre State Park

WHAT: The Transportation Corridor Agencies are seeking approval for a crucial Regional Water Quality Control Board permit that would allow them to begin work on a segment of the controversial extension of the 241 Foothill-South Toll Road.

WHY: The 16-mile Foothill-South Toll Road through San Onofre State Park was rejected in 2008 by the California Coastal Commission and the Bush Administration Department of Commerce, because of potentially devastating impacts to the coastline. Southern California residents and environmental groups turned out in record-setting numbers to speak out against the threat the road poses to open space, endangered species, and accessible recreational opportunities in the area. Now TCA is attempting to circumvent the legal process by building the road in segments, which is illegal.

WHO: Save San Onofre Coalition (including the California State Parks Foundation, Endangered Habitats League, Natural Resources Defense Council, Orange County Coastkeeper, Sierra Club, and Surfrider Foundation), San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), Transportation Corridor Agencies.
