Richard Woolcott and Steve Murray Back In for New SIMA Surf Summit
- Deadline to Register for Surf Summit 12 is Friday, July 31-
Aliso Viejo, Calif. (July 27, 2009) – The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) is pleased to announce that both Volcom’s Richard Woolcott and Vans’ Steve Murray have signed on again to speak at Surf Summit 12, which is now rescheduled for September 30 – October 3, 2009, at the Crowne Plaza Resort Los Cabos in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. Both Murray and Woolcott were originally slated to speak before having to postpone Surf Summit in May due to concern about the swine flu. SIMA is ecstatic that Murray and Woolcott have agreed to speak at the event during the new dates and help carry on the tradition of uniting the tribe in Cabo.
“Having to reschedule Surf Summit 12 has been inconvenient for everyone involved, but we are excited that the event is all coming back together so solidly,” said Sean Smith, SIMA executive director “We’re especially excited that Steve Murray and Richard Woolcott have rearranged their schedules to make the September 30 – October 3 event dates work. Steve and Richard are our highlight speakers for Surf Summit and sure to offer some great insight to everyone in attendance.”
Murray will open the event with a keynote address on the first night, while Woolcott will kick off the first day of seminars in a question-and-answer conversation with Peter “PT” Townsend. Along with Murray and Woolcott, SIMA has also secured Andrew Zolli, new generation futurist and executive director/curator of Pop!Tech, and Jane Buckingham, president of the Intelligence Group, to speak at Surf Summit 12. Zolli’s presentation, “The Road Ahead,” will lead attendees through an exploration of technology trends that will impact the future, as well as the way companies do business. Buckingham, a youth trend expert that regularly appears on CNN, in Cosmopolitan Magazine and the New York Times, will speak on “Understanding Today’s Youth and Tomorrow’s Trends.” Additional speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Surf Summit 12 activities will follow the same schedule as previously announced, including favorites such as the Retailer Appreciation Night, Cabo Crawl and the TransWorld SURFari. The winners of the SIMA Image Awards will also be announced during a ceremony in the sand on Friday, October 2, 2009. Attendees will enjoy the same educational benefits, networking and social surfing time as the successful years before.
All attendees who registered for the May Surf Summit dates have been contacted directly and have the option to either roll their registration into these new dates or be issued a refund if they are now unable to attend. For currently registered attendees wishing to roll their registration into the new dates or receive a refund, an Attendance Confirmation Form has been sent and MUST be completed and returned to the SIMA office by Friday, July 31, 2009. No refunds will be issued after this deadline.
Registration is open to all SIMA members and surf retailers who were not previously registered for the event in May and can now attend during the new dates. The deadline for registration is July 31, 2009. Late registration will not be accepted. Registration for non-SIMA members and non-surf retailers is by invitation only.
This year SIMA Surf Summit will be at a new venue – the Crowne Plaza Resort Los Cabos (www.cploscabos.com). The all-inclusive, beachside resort is located closer than in years past to all the hot surf spots, including East Cape, which is just 40-minutes away. With all rooms boasting an ocean view, two colossal pools, and as much great food as you can eat, the Crowne Plaza Resort Los Cabos will provide an epic experience all while allowing for a more affordable registration fee for attendees.
