Dane Reynolds of Ventura, California, USA (pictured) obliterated the competition during the round of 64, posting the day’s highest heat total to advance in first place at the Vans World Cup of Surfing at Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore on Thursday December 2, 2011.Competing in enormous four and a half meter surf, Reynolds posted a pair of near perfect 9-point rides, defeating Hank Gaskell (HAW), Julian Wilson (AUS) and Tomas Hermes (BRA).
