Quiksilver to Release Exclusive T-Shirt Series Featuring the Art of World Famous Surf Photographer Jason Childs
Bali, Indonesia July 11th, 2011:
Forever respectful of the art of Surfing photography, Quiksilver will honor one of the sports finest surf photographers with an exclusive series of t-shirts featuring the world class photography of Jason Childs. These iconic Indonesian images will feature some of Jason Childs’s favorite photos that he has captured over his long, distinguished career based on the Island of Bali, Indonesia. More than a long standing relationship with Quiksilver, Childs has had an even longer relationship with Indonesia and it shows in the intimate quality of his work.
Though a master of technical wizardy, the hallmark of Jason Childs’s works is his sixth sense of the sublime. Childs’s photos have always held a drama within them, an immediacy, a vitality, and importance that often takes ones breath away. More than just a photographer tripping a shutter, Jason Childs captures daydreams and defines the very history of our sport. A perfectionist beyond compare, his headquarters lair in Jimbaran rivals mission control, where after a long day of shooting from one of his many vantage points (including his Jet Ski), he tirelessly pours over his work. Here Childs achieves his excellence, hie perfection, insuring that every image he releases maintains the artistic integrity, the intensity and the mysticism that has become the trademark of his arresting photos.
“Quiksilver is delighted to work with Jason on this collaboration” says Simon MacGregor, Quiksilver Marketing Chief for Asia Pacific, “To bring his art work to another platform. We have always held that Surf photography is critical to surf culture. Advertising campaigns, magazine press, retail stores, online…without photography, we would be blind to wonders of surfing. We approached Jason because of his unquestioned dedication to his art. We were proud to invite him to work with our design team. The results are spectacular.”
The iconic images that Jason Childs has chosen for the project strongly represent the artistic creativity of his work. They are the great depictions of the Indonesian dream locations that surfers from all over the globe aspire to pay pilgrimage.
“Through this T-shirt range, Quiksilver is not only paying homage to Jason Childs but to surf photographers the world over, who dedicate so much of their lives to capturing these moments of surfing purity.”
No other artist is as involved with his medium as Jason Childs. Capturing instants that will never happen again, allowing us to travel back within them and to stop and regard our existence in perfect focus.
True to Jason’s passion for an environmentally sustainable Bali, certain T Shirt colour ways also feature a recycled PET (Polyethylene terephthalate, commonly used for plastic bottles) – Organic Cotton Blend material, aligning itself with Jason’s vision of a cleaner and greener Bali.
Jason Childs stops time. Our time.
And now, thanks to Quiksilver, we can wear it too.
About Jason Childs:
Jason Childs arrived in Indonesia in 1989 on his first overseas trip as a wide-eyed Aussie surfer/ photojournalist. He was spell bound by the beauty of Bali and the waves. “I’ll never forget my first time seeing Padang Padang firing with the late Hawaiian charger Ronnie Burns, Derek Ho and Bali’s own Made Kasim ruling the lime green barrels. I fell in love with Bali.”
He moved to Bali in 1994 and has followed his passions in life. “I’ve been very lucky to live and indulge my three passions in life – my family, my photography and my surfing for over 20 years. I’m in a unique position as a professional photographer to be based in Indonesia, a diverse country with amazing surf, culture and indigenous tribes. The beach is my office and the ocean my studio. I’m as passionate today about surfing and photography as I was when I rode my first wave and took my first shot”.
Since 1985, his highly regarded photography has been seen worldwide in every major surf magazine including Surfer, where he is currently a staff photographer. Currently, Jason is one of the most published photographers in surfing. He travels the Indonesia and the World on assignment shooting advertising, corporate and editorial campaigns.
