Courtney Conlogue Wins ASP 6-Star Cabreiroa Surfing Girls
HUNTINGTON BEACH, California/USA (Monday, August 30, 2010) – Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA), 17, clinched a massive victory this past week at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Cabreiroa Surfing Girls event in Pantin, Spain over defending ASP World Junior Champion Laura Enever (AUS), 19, to move to No. 3 on the ASP Women’s World Ranking.
Female competitors battling on the ASP Star series are out to finish within the top seven on the international circuit to qualify for the prestigious ASP Women’s Dream Tour. Once qualified, they earn the right to battle for the title of ASP World Champion.
Conlogue, who finished runner-up at the last women’s ASP 6-Star event, earned a rematch against Enever less than two weeks later at the Cabreiroa Surfing Girls, this time topping the young Australian to clinch her first major ASP Women’s Star event of the season, significantly helping her cause towards qualification for the ASP Women’s Dream Tour.
“It was exciting to be in two finals back-to-back with Laura and it was fun competing against her again,” Conlogue said. “It was definitely a lot of hard work and it paid off in the long run.”
Conlogue was in top form throughout the event’s entirety, notching the highest heat total in the Quarterfinals of a near-perfect 19.10 to defeat French talent Pauline Ado (FRA), 18, and ousting current ASP Women’s World No. 2 Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 19, before clinching the event over Enever.
“That quarterfinal was so much fun today,” Conlogue said. “I just kept catching wave after wave and I was having so much fun I didn’t want to stop. I wanted to give everyone a good show and we had 30-minutes for the heat so it was fun. I love Pantin and Spain and I’ve been having a great time so I definitely want to return next year.”
Conlogue will continue her quest for a position amongst the finest women’s surfing talent on the planet at the ASP 4-Star Billabong presents Surfecofestival at Pria de Aeroclube in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil from September 16 through 18, 2010.
