Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards: Maya Gets Deep in Tahiti/HI and CA Gear Up for a Monster
A brand new Ride of the Year entry video is now posted of Brazilian Maya Gabeira on what’s clearly one of the heaviest tubes ever by a female. See it at BillabongXXL.com or if you wish to easily link to it or embed it, please see the YouTube version at http://www.youtube.com/surfnews#p/u/0/RCCdr3gn0vY
There are also tons of other entries just in including all the latest Maverick’s paddle bombs vying for the Monster Paddle Award, and an Oregon slab slides that just went plain wrong in the Monster Tube division.
But it would appear that all of this so far has been a mere tune-up for the Main Event as the El Nino winter begins to get serious in the North Pacific. The world’s best big wave surfers are all watching Surfline.com for the latest data on the forecasted storm, and so far things are remaining rather positive for an exceptional swell event for every major big wave break in the Hawaiian Islands and the West Coast for early next week. Exactly which spot will have the finest combination of swell height and local weather (and who can get from Point A to Point B to do something about it) are the big questions awaiting big answers. This is going to be interesting. Double Extra interesting….
We’ll find out soon enough. Stay tuned to BillabongXXLcom all the results once the swell moves on from theory into reality.
