This is a retro surfboard riding “contest” where everyone gets an award for riding old boards and surviving great wipeouts. Trophys and prizes are passed out for a multitude of criteria, best seventies style, best ride, deepest pearl, etc…..awards ceremony at J. King Neptunes in Sunset Beach. There will be old seventies boards available for you to see and surf on. Each contestant must pick from a hat to find out what board they get in a heat. Saturday July 18th at 7am- the real action starts about 10-11 when the semi-finals begin….every year we have many outstanding and talented surfers who surf against whoever signs up that can manuever yellowed and warped seventies boards. Last year you had a chance to surf against 1970’s world champion Peter Townend-you never know who you might get in a heat. This is a really fun event for spectators and surfers alike to see some great talent and hilarious mishaps in the surf. The surfboards are really quite beautiful from the 1970’s and the beach turns into a retro surfboard shaping show. Local businesses and surf companys donate some fantastic prizes. 30 dollars to enter for event t-shirt and a surf filled day. Girls on the beach may win prize for best seventies bikini. Bring down your old boards for the crowd to examine and admire. Contest will fill up soon so sign up early. Sign up at Katin surf shop in Surfside.
