Kelly Slater
Market Price: $12,500,000
“The King! More of a Lowers local than nearly any other guy on Tour and his winning record out there is mind-boggling. The swell reports look like it’s going to be a not-so-strong south swell, which could mean a lot of lefts. That will benefit the guys that know the lineup well because they will be able to pick off the best backup scores.”

Julian Wilson
Market Price: $8,500,000
“X-factor maneuvers! From huge slob air reverses to blow tails to varials, Julian is known for throwing big moves in his Lowers heats. I am excited to see what he has store for this year. He has been riding a lot of Mayhem surfboards, so maybe that local flavor will point him in the direction of a win. Also, I’ve been watching the “21 Days” series and he seems focused.”

Ace Buchan
Market Price: $7,500,000
“This man is on a heater with some magical ju-ju. He just beat The King at Teahupoo with some freaky barrel riding. And he was a semi-finalist in last year’s Lowers prime event, so he is no stranger to turkey carving Lowers to shreds. Can Ace get back-to-back World Tour wins? I’m saying once the ceiling got busted in Tahiti, there is no stopping him.”

Gabriel Medina
Market Price: $7,000,000
“I love watching Gabriel surf at Lowers. For goofy footers, he has every trick you want to see dialed on the left. Those big airs off the first section are insane! I really hope this is the event that allows Gabriel to get himself back on top of the draw and crush some heats.”

Sebastian Zietz
Market Price: $5,000,000
“Seabass is a phenomenal surfer, so fun to watch. His track record when competing at Lowers in the WQS events is solid, so I’m ready to see him blow up.”

Filipe Toledo
Market Price: $4,250,000
“I am backing the “Toledo Sensation.” I truly believe Filipe can win this event. I was just in the Azores [where Toledo lost to the eventual winner in the quarters] and nobody has backside 360 airs on lock like him. He looked spicy, he looked zesty, and he didn’t look like he was slowing down. So yes, Filipe is on board!”

Kolohe Andino
Market Price: $4,000,000
“Brother is a big human now. He knows the lineup, looks focused and hasn’t had a WCT result out there yet. A 2nd at the US Open and a 3rd in the Azores has him 8th on the World Rankings, but now he is hungry for a World Tour win!”

Patrick Gudauskas
Market Price: $1,500,000
“Sorry for being biased and putting my brother on my team. I know he has been a tricky person to bet on with some close heat scores and hard heat draws, but he is my favorite surfer at Lowers. He has a huge variety of maneuvers both frontside and backside, including the rodeo flip. He just had a win on the East Coast, which might mean he is feeling extra confident to throw those big maneuvers.”

ALTERNATE: Ian Crane
Market Price: $1,500,000
“He is the last wildcard to get into the contest due to a second place in the trials, and has no WCT experience, but he is gnarly so who gives a rip? He might surf beyond his expectations and go hard for a final day heat draw.”

  • Daniel Mawkes

Unless my maths is shit, you team adds up to 50.25 million…….

    • BornStoked

      Your math is shit. $51.75m

  • big al

Can someone kindly explain to me what the “slob” in a slob air reverse refers to. I’m from illinois pls understand

    • Beau

Slob is your right hand if your goofy or your left hand if your natural inside of your front foot grabbing during the air

  • Manuel

Daniel, maybe that is because of valuations, at this point my team adds up to 56 million if i wanted to buy it at this point.

  • BTV

Daniel, your math isn’t shit. Tanner listed the “Market Price”, which is the current price. He likely had one, if not many guys already on his team from previous contests and has them at a discounted price due picking them up at a lesser amount earlier in the season.
