TAHARA AICHI, Japan (Thursday, July 30, 2009) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Longboard Tour is continuing its quest to crown a Yumeya presents Oxbow WLT at Tahara Champion and is beginning with heat 11 of Round 1 this morning in improved two-to-three foot (1 metre) conditions at the backup site of Long Beach in Tahara Aichi, Japan.
“We’re getting off to an early start this morning with improved conditions,” ASP WLT Manager, Al Hunt said. “We will be checking the forecasts throughout the day and there is a chance that we could crown a champion by this evening.”
The Yumeya presents Oxbow WLT at Tahara is the first of two ASP WLT events of the 2009 calendar, with the second, which is also an Oxbow event, occurring in the Maldives in late October where the 2009 ASP World Longboard Champion will be crowned.
Yesterday’s action saw defending and two-time ASP World Longboard Champion Bonga Perkins (HAW), 36, and last year’s ASP World No. 2 Antoine Delpero (FRA), 24, display impressive performances to open up their 2009 campaigns. Today’s action will complete Round 1 and action will continue as conditions permit.
