The Chip Miller Charitable Foundation is proud to announce it is 8th Annual Surf Fest, taking place on July 28th, 2011 at the 7th Street Surfing Beach, in Ocean City, NJ. In addition to the surf event, there will also be our first-ever golf tournament, which will be hosted at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, NJ, on the same day. The combination of surfing and golfing have led the Foundation to retitle the event as ‘Surf + Turf’.
In addition to hosting the community-wide surf contest and new golf outing, this year’s event will continue to raise money and awareness for the rare but deadly disease Amyloidosis, which took the life of the event’s namesake, Chip Miller, in 2004.
‘Watching our event mature year over year has been a true triumph and provides my family and I with the utmost joy, knowing my father is still making an impact even 7 years after his passing’, said Lance Miller. ‘I’m very excited with the addition of this year’s golf tournament and we’re eager to continue this growth pattern for years to come and of course help spread the word about this terrible disease, Amyloidosis, that took the life of my best friend’.
‘The Chip’ as it’s known to the locals, has become infamous because of the outpouring of support from the community, the surf and auto industries, and countless others. These supporters contribute their services and products for autograph sessions, giveaways, event support, after-party raffle prizes, and silent auction items. The addition of this year’s golf tournament will make the overall event better than it’s ever been in the past.
All event proceeds are donated to the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Charitable Foundation, who’s mission is to provide people with the knowledge and understanding of Amyloidosis for earlier detection, ensuring a better quality of life for those afflicted with the disease and to help science find the cure.

Contestant check-in will begin at 7:00 AM on Thursday, July 28th on the 7th Street Beach and a ‘first come-first serve’ Alternate List will be started at that time (to take the place of any registered ‘no shows’). This year’s after-party will once again be held at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, NJ, and begins at 6pm. ABOUT CHIP MILLER:
In December 2003, Chip Miller was diagnosed with a little-known disease called Amyloidosis. Sadly, due to complications from the disease, the world lost an incredibly special human being on March 25, 2004. Had Chip
and his doctors been aware of the symptoms of Amyloidosis when they first presented, this legend might still be with us today.
Amyloidosis occurs when abnormal protein, called amyloid, builds up in one or more organs to cause a malfunction. As an abnormal protein, amyloid originates in bone marrow. The heart, kidneys, nervous system
and gastrointestinal tract are most often affected by the disease. Signsand Symptoms depend on the organs affected. The wide range of symptoms makes it difficult to diagnose. For more information please go to http://www.chipmiller.org
