COSTA MESA, Calif., July 23, 2013 – After two months of collecting entries and two weeks of deliberating, Hurley announced today the Top 16 contenders of its digital wildcard contest: The Hurley Pro Video Trials. Public voting will commence on July 29 at thehurleypro.com.
Close to 100 of the nation’s best surfers submitted entries for this first-of-its kind video contest, with Dane Reynolds, Mason Ho and Luke Davis being three of the standouts. They will now compete for a coveted wildcard slot in the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles, September 15. A panel of judges – featuring Rob Machado, Bob Hurley and Pat O’Connell – narrowed the selection down to the best 16 competitors to fill the final brackets. “I was really impressed by the level of entries,” said Hurley Sportsmarketing VP Pat O’Connell. “We had to make some tough calls for the last few spots, but the ‘judge each wave’ system made our decisions easier. It’s now up to the public to decide.”
Man-on-man heats will take place online, allowing fans to vote on the best surfer of each heat. There are four rounds in total, with one round running each day. The winner – who will become the first-ever WCT wildcard chosen by popular vote – will be announced August 2.
