Billabong Pro Mundaka Back ON, Possible Champ Crowned Today
MUNDAKA, Euskadi/Spain (Tuesday, October 13, 2009) – The Billabong Pro Mundaka, stop No. 8 of 10 on the 2009 ASP World Tour, has been called back on with three-to-four foot (1 metre) waves breaking along the Mundaka sandbar and Round 3 heading out at 8am.
Following yesterday’s marathon session that saw the world’s best surfers attack both the punchy sandbars of Sopelana as well as the roping lefthanders of Mundaka, the Billabong Pro Mundaka has the option to finish today, should tide and conditions allow for it.
“It’s a bit hard to see in the dark at the moment, but we plan on starting as soon as there is enough light, probably 8am,” Perry Hatchett, ASP Head Judge, said. “We’re hoping to run the dual-heat format again, and we’ll assess conditions as the day progresses to see if we’ll be able to finish.”
Up first this morning will be former ASP World Champion (2001) C.J. Hobgood (USA), 30, against former ASP World Junior Champion (2005) and 2009 ASP Dream Tour rookie Kekoa Bacalso (HAW), 24.
The Billabong Pro Mundaka will be webcast LIVE via http://www.billabongpro.com/mundaka09/
The Billabong Pro Mundaka will host the world’s best surfers from October 5 through 17, 2009.
