Beachley Classic Comes to an End
Famed Women's Event will not run in 2013
Layne Beachley announced that her namesake event, the Beachley Classic, has come to an end and will not be run in 2013. In an interview with The Australian, Beachley confirmed that the event would no longer be run.
“It’s the end of an era as far as my event is concerned…My primary aim was to raise the profile of women’s surfing and I would like to think the Classic did just that. I will always keep a close eye on the ASP tour and encourage young female surfers to chase their dreams.”
The Beachley Classic was first run in 2006 and once held the richest prize purse on the women’s World Tour at $140,000.
