At 40 years old, Taylor Knox is ripping harder than ever in heats against kids half his age. This probably wouldn't be the case if he stuck to the drive-thru window. Photo: Glaser

How do pro surfers maintain a healthy diet when they’re constantly on the road?—Terry Sebold, Kilauea, HI

“I have to be aware and pay attention to what I am putting in my body, while at the same time not being too rigid. I don’t hold back from having my treats, but for me it’s all about timing—like eating a Haagen Dazs at 6 p.m. and not at 11. I also make sure I do the little things like eating brown rice instead of white. And the most important thing is if you’re going to eat dairy make sure it’s organic. You have to listen to your body, and no one should know it better than you.”
