Proposed ban on SUPs falters in Hawaii
If approved, the ban on SUPS would be imposed at lineups between the Ala Moana boat harbor and Kewalo Basin on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 3 pm until 9 pm. As a pilot program, if approved, it would be in effect for a year.
Climate change and rising sea levels are drowning the islands of Kiribati
If nothing is done, Kiribati will go down into the ocean.
The star is set to embark on a different type of world tour
The Amazing Race, the CBS show that pits duos against each other for a chance to win a cool million bucks, has signed up Bethany Hamilton and her husband Adam Dirks to appear as contestants in the upcoming 25th season. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, it’s kind of a big deal and attracts an
Highlights of accidents from the Teahupoo Offramp
Let’s start by saying that we know it’s hard—nay, impossible—to play it cool when you’ve just exited a perfect 10-foot barrel at Teahupoo. We get it. But what we saw in the realm of kickouts at the Billabong Pro Tahiti was nearly as entertaining as the tubes themselves. Whether it was Kelly Slater awkwardly jumping
Red Bull's Cape Fear Challenge is on at Ours
"There's no wave in the world from 6 to 10 feet that is heavier than it. Deep-water swells pitch on a super shallow ledge that's covered with razor blade barnacles and then it breaks only 10-15 meters from the cliff face. So if you fall off and don't hit the bottom, chances are you're going to get washed in to that cliff face. There are plenty of dangers and few people willing to navigate them." —Mark Mathews

Just when you thought you’d seen it all, Jamie O’Brien decides to bust out a board transfer on a massive set at The Wedge. Big board, to little board, to big barrel.

As expected, Teahupoo remains one of the most beautiful and downright terrifying waves on the planet, even from above. Between the narrow channels that cut
Zak Noyle takes you behind the cover of our September Issue
I had to swim inside and deeper as the set came in and time it just right. If I would have mistimed it, I probably would have gotten washed up on the reef and pretty beat up. But I was able to hold it long enough to watch Koa fly by me and capture the moment. It really all came together perfectly.
Two major storms are approaching the islands
Hawaii is preparing for the arrival of two major back-to-back storms. The first storm, Hurricane Iselle, is predicted to make landfall on the Big Island as a category 1 hurricane as early as tomorrow night. Hurricane Iselle is currently packing winds up to 90 mph. The second storm, Julio, is predicted to skirt just north of the islands, with its effects arriving on the islands as a tropical storm over the weekend.
