Florence Wins Vans World Cup to Take Vans Triple Crown Lead

HONOLULU (Dec. 1, 2011) -- Hawaii's John John Florence has stood on the sand here at Sunset Beach watching the crowning of surfing champions since he was 6-years-old. Today, at 19, he stood on the podium, having realized his childhood dream of winning the Vans World Cup at Sunset Beach, and taking the lead on the coveted Vans Triple Crown presented by Rockstar Energy Drink series ratings. It was an overwhelming victory for Florence, who surfed in his first Vans Triple Crown event at the tender age of 12.

Waste to Waves Program Turns Trash to Slash

CARLSBAD, Calif.—SPY Optic™ today announced a partnership with newly launched, non-profit organization, Sustainable Surf, to champion its “Waste to Waves” program centered on recycling waste packaging foam –expanded polystyrene (plastic #6), aka “EPS” or “styrofoam”– into fresh, eco-friendlier surfboard blanks. The pilot program launches today with nearly 40 participating surf shops housing branded in-store collection boxes into which customers may deposit recyclable foam.
