Burned out from competition and its relentless physical and mental demands, three-time world champion Andy Irons is about to step away from the World Tour—possibly for a year, possibly for good. This winter, he sat down with Joel Patterson to discuss the “weird year” that led to his decision, and what he hopes to find in a surf life lived without heat horns, the ASP, and Kelly Slater.
